Reflections on Ondoy(Ketsana)

What really happened last Saturday was horrendous... I have experienced it firsthand. Our house was located in the vicinity of Marikina River (We are four streets away from the river) but this has never happened even in the time of my grannies... Our City I once thought was Flood-proof, our administrators have taken steps to improve our sewerage system to ensure this would not happen, they occasionally deepen ans clean the river and creeks in Marikina. I have experienced worse storm than this one but somehow Ondoy managed to flood most of the Region...
Maybe the cause was already there? or maybe this was the inevitable result of what has been done to mother nature.... What I mean is when you take a look around the hills and mountains that surrounds Marikina Valley, it has been stripped bare of plant life to give way to residential areas. Most of the newly built villages and subdivisions are located there, so whats stopping all the water from going to the river? Then there is the story of the simultaneous release of water from 3 different dams, as well as the fact that the supposed floodway was not opened. For the floodway they can really reason that they cannot handle such huge volume of water rushing in... even as i write this, there are still flooded areas around the floodway (Pasig, Cainta, Rizal) and around Laguna Lake (which is the final destination of the floodway) but for the dams? only one of them said that they released water while the other two kept denying them.. Or maybe we are already feeling the spasms of a dying world as some believed... take a look at the worsening situation around the world... not just ours.... the Greenhouse effect, the melting of the polar ice caps, Earthquakes and typhoons much more stronger than before, volcanic eruptions tsunamis... take your pick... it just is occurring too frequently...

RE: Reflections on Ondoy(Ketsana)

natural disasters happen all the time....
the earth is in a cycle as it has always been..

yeah people die, but that really doesn't mean the earth is dying...

trust me, we'll probably be gone long before the earth is considered dying..
