Software Architect

Position Summary

Friendster is looking for an exceptional and highly motivated software architect with a strong track record of designing and developing multi-tiered web applications that are high quality, scalable, and reliable. We prefer generalists who have driven feature development at every layer of the stack.

As a key member of our engineering team, the Software Architect has broad responsibilities, including technical leadership, application design and development, project management, and cross-department communication and mentoring. To be successful, you need a deep understanding of social networking sites, development methodologies, common web and application architectures as well as strong analytical skills.

The Friendster operations and engineering team has divisions in Mountain View, California and the Philippines. Coordination between the two locations is an important part of our day-to-day routine and any successful applicant must be able to work with remote, as well as local, team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Define robust architectures for new applications, leveraging and enhancing existing building blocks or creating new reusable components. Monitor and review implementation of same.
• Provide technical leadership to the development team(s)
• Build early prototypes of product components and validate them for technical design and performance
• Understand the long-term business objectives and suggest technical strategies to meet those objectives
• Be responsive and decisive on adjusting our product architecture as customer requirements, market conditions, and technology evolve
• Partner with others, inside and outside the product development team, to gather requirements and formulate appropriate architecture, deciding when to advocate and when to compromise to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution
• Actively participate in the development process, as needed
• Provide any necessary support to operations and development teams to mitigate and fix site problems. Participate in and lead post-mortem analyses to aid with continual improvement in the areas of incident prevention and resolution.

Position Requirements

• 10+ years experience in application design with 3+ years as an architect
• Experience in an architect role on large-scale, distributed, web-based applications, particularly "owning" the design of portions of such a system.
• Comfortable in communicating architecture to all levels of management and customers
• Track record that includes the design and release of high-quality, high-performance software products / applications
• Strong analytical problem solving and decision making skills
• Strong time management, organization, and prioritization skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Expert-level knowledge of application design and coding techniques, as well as a thorough understanding of installation, testing methodologies and troubleshooting techniques.
• Possessing skills in the following technology areas: PHP, C++, Web Services, XML, XSL, HTML, Javascript, Java, HTTP, SQL

Site Architect

Position Summary

As a key member of our engineering and operations teams, the Site Architect has broad responsibilities, including technical leadership, application design and development, project management, and cross-department communication and mentoring. To be successful, you need a deep understanding of social networking sites, large system deployments, common web and application architectures as well as strong analytical skills and the determination to follow any and every problem through to a resolution.

The Site Architect role is a challenging combination of both technical management and design responsibilities, with hands-on production code monitoring, diagnosis and mitigation. You will be involved in all aspects of the technical side of the company: planning expansions to our high performance systems, working with the operations team to coordinate system upgrades and reconfigurations, understanding and evaluating code produced by the engineering team in order to evaluate its appropriateness for deployment, and working with the site performance team to maintain and improve our quality in that area. The ideal candidate will possess all the best aspects of a systems administrator and a highly motivated software developer.

Position Requirements

• 10+ years experience in application design with 3+ years as a systems or site architect
• Experience in an architect role on large-scale, distributed, web-based applications, particularly “owning” the design of portions of such a system.
• Comfortable in communicating architecture to all levels of management and customers

Senior Product Manager for Friendster Website

Position Summary

Friendster is currently seeking a Senior Product Manager with production web site experience developing in a high-volume consumer web site. This position will be a member of the Product team and will participate in the continued definition and development of Friendster’s patent pending social network technology as well as the definition of other key infrastructural components of our service.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a cross-functional team of engineers, and designers to define goals, requirements, and strategies for the Friendster web site.

Design Director (Senior User Experience and Interaction Designer)

Position Summary

Friendster is currently seeking a Senior User Experience and Interaction Designer to establish, direct and implement the design strategy for the Friendster suite of products.

The primary function of our UED's is to work alongside the production team to help them understand how our users navigate our site. You will work with interaction flows and site maps. You will describe and illustrate details of the design and behaviors’ of a product or interface. You will be responsible for how our users experience Friendster as a product! You will also be responsible for taking a user-centered design approach to create the best user experience for the Friendster user base, while taking business, marketing and engineering requirements into consideration.

To be considered for this position you must have minimum of 5 years experience as a key member of a User Interaction team, ideally from a portal/ social networking background. You will be a master of web design principles, information and interactive design.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the overall design strategy for Friendster.
• Lead interaction and visual design throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial explorations through final design deliverables.
• Work closely with product managers and developers to define overall product direction and UI requirements.
• Work across different functional teams to create designs that balance the end user’s needs with the overall business and marketing objectives.

• Work with designers to implement and maintain user-facing features for an audience of millions

• Code primarily using Javascript, HTML and CSS. Knowledge of PHP is highly desirable.
• Identify and communicate best practices for front-end engineering
