the early 70's, so I'll not attest for their
accuracy, nonetheless vivid: beautiful
music and beautiful women. How did he
discover them?
Living in Pittsburgh I still see people we
both knew, age can be funny, at least
when seen through the imagination of
what once was.
But Duane always has younger friends
so the degrees of separation often begin
with knowing him.
He's seen me being an asshole and I've
seen him in similar predicaments, still
he's always been a friend to me and
knows what's important.
When he moved to NY he let me live
with his wonderful cat, Gabrielle.
Thanks Duane
family, the Kupersanins, adopted Duane
back in the late 60s. He and my sisters
used to have "tea parties" out on the
sidewalk on Murray Hill Ave., according
to the lore.
Duane lived with us off and on, and I
remember hanging out with him, his
guitars, and his pet tarantula in the
basement as a kid.
He thought I was a brat, and still does.
I am.
Duane was always in some band--in the
mid 70s, we'd go to Flagstaff and see
him play with a bunch of guys wearing
Dashikis. They were awesome.
Duane also hung out with me during my
formative years in Chief's and one of
the things he told me was that at his
memorial service, he wants his friends
to gather in a dive bar and play poker
and listen to/play music.
I guess I'll be organizing it.
I love you, bro'friend.
